Law degree opens various career options for you

Law is one of the popular career choices in our country for a long time. According to reports, about half a million law students pass out from various colleges in India including top law colleges in Chhattisgarh.

Traditionally, students could specialise in either civil or criminal laws. However, this concept has changed and now students can opt to specialise in any of the various options offered like patent laws, corporate laws, cyber law etc.

Getting a Bachelor’s degree in Law, or LLB, is the first step to make a career in this field. It can be a 3-year or a 5-year integrated degree. Students from any background can give the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) which is an entrance test into the National Law Universities across the country.  CLAT basically tests the student’s general english, legal aptitude, general awareness, logical skills, etc.

Earlier, the profession of practicing law was limited to criminal and civil litigation. But now, the opportunities available for graduates from any of the top 20 law colleges in Chhattisgarh and India are phenomenal.

Entry-level lawyers are expected to have good analytical, research, drafting and oral and written communication skills.

Here are various various career options for law students:

A practicing advocate: This is the most conventional route after law education. It is always suggested for lawyers in heredity to opt for court practice.

Corporate lawyers: With the growing corporate firms, this offers a new career option for working as corporate lawyers with law firms or in legal team of big corporates. Corporate lawyers get paid very well. This industry also specialises into various fields like cyber law, patent law etc. It results a lot of scope for graduating lawyers.

Civil Services or Judicial Services: By clearing exams conducted by Public Service Commissions, a law graduate can become a judge. After gaining experience, a law graduate can hope to become Solicitor General, a Public Prosecutor or offer services to government departments and ministries.

One can also work as a legal adviser for various organisations or teaching in colleges, work with NGOs. The legal profession has immense potential for ambitious and hard working lawyers. Studying law at  top law colleges in Chhattisgarh or other part of India can make you a confident and successful lawyer in future and can open various options for you.
